When you have a number of missing teeth then a denture, either full or partial, will restore a confident smile that looks natural and has additional benefits.
What types of dentures are available?
Dentures are made to match your missing teeth to create a natural look and restore function so that you can eat the foods you like and have a balanced diet. Dentures can be made from a variety of materials including acrylic or cobalt chrome.
A denture can be made of the same materials with clasps that clip onto your normal teeth to hold it in place.
A denture can also be held in place with dental implants. The denture is held in place by several dental implants but it can still be removed for cleaning.
How do you look after dentures?
You need to take care when cleaning dentures as they can break if dropped on a hard surface. Cleaning them every day is important, and if possible after every meal. They should be placed in a denture-cleaning solution at night. Keeping dentures in overnight is not advised unless there is a reason to do so.
Also remember to:
- Avoid cleaning with very hot water
- Use a special denture or soft bristle brush
- Don’t use abrasive cleaners or bleach
- Always store in the water when not wearing as they can lose their shape if left to dry out
How long does it take to prepare dentures?
After an initial appointment for diagnosis, an impression will be taken which is then sent to a dental technician who will create the denture that is the right fit for your mouth.
What are the benefits of dentures?
- A confident smile
- You can enjoy a healthy, varied diet
- A more youthful appearance
What are cosmetic dentures?
Most patients not only want their dentures to function well but also to look good so that no-one knows they are wearing dentures. Cosmetic dentures can offer a more precise fit than traditional acrylic or cobalt chrome dentures with an improved aesthetic look. They can be made thinner and so also offer more comfort in the mouth.
